Joan obtained her medical degree from the University of Queensland in 1987, having previously obtained a Bachelor of Science and a degree of Doctor of Philosophy while working for some years in the field of medical research.
Joan undertook further studies in Family Medicine, and has obtained qualifications in Acupuncture and a certificate in Sexual and Reproductive Health.
She has worked as a GP in a number of locations as well as in areas of Aboriginal health, aged care and palliative care.
Her clinical interests within Women's Health include, contraception, pre-pregnancy and antenatal care, infertility issues and peri and menopausal management, as well as holistic preventative care throughout the life cycle. She advocates a patient-centred approach, and as such has a special interest in patient education - to allow patients to be a partner in the management of their health needs.
Joan has also interests in mental health issues and the application of Acupuncture to muscular-skeletal conditions where appropriate.Her other interests include music therapy, and following new developments in medical research.
She derives a lot of pleasure from working in such a pleasant and supportive environment - where both staff and doctors are committed to helping patients healthy balanced lives.
