Specialty Mirena, IUD and Contraception clinic

Healthy Women Medical Centre has recently established a Contraception and IUD Centre within the clinic. The service is to suit both our own patients and referrals from other doctors and specialists if they are unable to provide the procedures.

There are many different choices of contraception now available to Australian women. These options for contraception can be extremely confusing and in many cases some are more suitable than others depending on the individual. our medical staff will be more than happy to advise on the most suitable method for each individual, also taking into account the various personal circumstances of the patient.

Our doctors are fully trained and compliant in the procedures for insertion and removal of all types of short to medium term contraceptive options and are always happy to discuss clients' suitability during consultations.

Some of the available methods include:

  • Contraceptive Birth Control Pill – designed to suit an individuals needs. Easy to start and stop. Can be quite expensive.
  • Mirena – IUS: small device inserted into the cervix, lasts approx 5 years, 99.9% effective, reduction in menstrual loss and period pain. Cost effective.I
  • Implanon – small rod inserted under the skin of the arm, lasts for approx 3 years, 99.9% effective. Cost effective.
  • Nuvaring – small removable vaginal ring that contains the same hormone release as the birth control pill, however delivered in a lower dose, don’t have to take a pill everyday.
